As our state continues to grow, we need to make sure our dedicated nurses and doctors have everything they need to keep up with demand.
And over the past three years, we’ve made a record investment in our state’s healthcare services.
What will the money be used for?
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 includes investments for:
Hospital admissions and emergency treatments
$2.1 billion to support the 1.96 million patients expected to be admitted to our hospitals, and the 1.84 million patients to be seen in our emergency departments this year.
Elective surgery
More than 207,000 Victorians will get the surgery they need sooner, with a $218 million elective surgery blitz to cut waiting times and lists. This is equivalent to nearly 14,370 hip replacementsor more than 76,000 eye surgeries.
Better Care Victoria Innovation Fund
$25 million for the Better Care Victoria Innovation Fund to enhance access to services and improve health service quality and performance.
Centre of Research Excellence
$2.1 million for a Centre of Research Excellence for bone marrow biology to help accelerate the work of Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision in finding a cure for bone marrow failure syndromes.
These projects will continue to deliver first-class healthcare for all Victorians.
