More schools where they're needed

Three primary school students reading

Investment $2.8 billion

Victoria is experiencing a population boom, with 90,000 extra students expected to enter Victorian schools all over the state in the next five years.

Every Victorian family, wherever they live, deserves a good quality school.

That’s why the Victorian Government has invested an unprecedented $6 billion in Victoria’s schools since 2014.

What will the money be used for?

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 includes investments to:

Land purchases for new school sites

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 continues our commitment to the Education State, with nearly $2.8 billion invested in schools, including $272 million to purchase land for new school sites.

School projects and upgrades

This Budget includes $353 million for new and planned school projects and $483 million to upgrade existing schools – to give every family, in every community, a good school close to home.

It means across our state, 28 new schools will be built and planned, accommodating more than 15,000 students, with more than 130 existing schools upgraded.

A further $126 million for the relocatable classrooms program, school pride and sport fund, and asbestos removal program, will further improve our schools.
