The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to rebuild schools across regional and rural Victoria with an investment of $88.3 million in the 2009-10 Budget that will deliver jobs now and support country Victorian families through tough global times.
The Treasurer John Lenders said the 2009 State Budget would continue delivering on the Brumby Labor Government’s plan to rebuild, renovate and extend every school to create a world-class education system for Victorian families no matter where they live.
“Good schools are crucial to the liveability of our regions and the Brumby Labor Government is taking action to ensure our children and young people are given the best start to life and a high quality education,” Mr Lenders said.
“Our Government has invested over $870 million in regional and rural schools since 1999 and this new investment is a win-win for Victorian families in tough times – it stimulates the economy and jobs now and builds better schools for the future.
“We are delivering record capital funding to schools to ensure all Victorian children are educated in the best school environments – this is about providing families in country communities with great schools for their children and creating construction jobs in local communities during tough economic times.”
Mr Lenders said schools in regional and rural Victoria to be rebuilt, renovated or modernised included:
